Today is 26th January. We hoisted the flag and celebrated the 62nd birthday of our republic.
“Where the mind is without fear and head is held high,
Where knowledge is free- in that heaven of freedom
O God let my country awake.”
These lines of Tagore express the ideal picture of a society, country and nation. To dream the heaven of freedom in a country like India is to think of nation deprived of honesty, dedication, social, political and economic opportunities. Besides the separatist tendencies, narrow selfish aims are a constant threat to the stable and cohesive society, which is divided into a number of castes and sub castes. Different religions are followed, different languages are spoken in the country, the problem is how to foster national unity and unite different people into a single whole. Due to the lack of national consciousness country passed through a long period of slavery and suffered partition. We achieved freedom and had a false notion that we also have attained integration at all levels. We forgot that integration or unity is not a thing which achieved once is achieved forever. We always felt proud of our cultural heritage and sang the songs of our glorious past.
Today if there is any power which can replenish the vigor and strength in the society and nation- is youth, which is synonym to vigor, vitality and vicissitudes. Only physical richness will not make the society cohesive. The youth have to contribute to cultural richness.
Today we claim to be educated. Are we really? We are easily duped by the selfish politicians who believe in divide and rule policy, who have divided the people in the name of religion, region, caste and creed. We know that we want to live peacefully and lovingly. The separatist tendencies can be eradicated if young people come forward and discuss the people about the sanctity and tenets of other religion. They can form small groups; clubs in their colonies and help people understand each other. Young people can bring true socialism by telling their fellow men that charity, humanity and love is above religion. Not to speak of cosmopolitan cities, even in remote villages young people should organize awareness camps, classes for adults to achieve this end. They can make the people understand the value and price of freedom.
There can be peace and cordial atmosphere in the country if there is peace ad unity in the society. No place should be given to narrow and selfish motives. We should learn to love and respect the feelings and views of the people different from us.
